Community Recreation Members
Community Recreation Standing Committee
This committee is one of three standing committees of Recreation SA that advocates on behalf of the community recreation sector in South Australia.
The Standing Committee comprises:
David Dewar (Chair), Royal Life Saving Society
Craig Cooper, City of Marion
Lee Maglica, Regency Institute of TAFE
Peter Nicholls, Parks and Leisure Australia
Darrilyn Wood, Life. Be in it.
Peter Schwarz, YMCA of SA
Sean O'Brien, Tea Tree Gully Council
Role of the Committee
The purpose of this Standing Committee is to further the interests of Recreation SA by enhancing the growth, quality and standards of the community recreation sector in South Australia.
The committee achieves this through the following actions:
Advocacy/Representation
To represent and further the interests of the community recreation sector to government, media, national and other appropriate organisations and the public. To make recommendations to the Board and other standing committees of Recreations South Australia with regard to the community recreation sector.
Promotion
To publicise and promote the value of recreation and encourage increased participation in community recreation activities.
Sector Liaison
To provide a forum for community recreation service providers to exchange information about current research, innovations, trends and sector standards.
Standards
To promote relevant and appropriate national vocational qualifications and industry competency standards.
Education and Training
To initiate and promote training programs aimed at improving the viability of community recreation sector service providers.
