Basketball legend Andrew Gaze, former Adelaide Crows footballer Brent Reilly and Dr Emma Sherry are among the highlights of the 2016 Recreation SA and Parks and Leisure Australia SA/NT South Australian State Conference, at Next Generation Memorial Drive, on Monday, April 11.
“The Future of Recreation, Sport and Leisure - A Sustainable Business” will explore practical and innovative ideas to provide delegates with energy and inspiration to improve the Parks, Leisure, Recreation and Aquatics sectors.
We are pleased to announce Andrew Gaze, regarded as the greatest basketballer Australia has ever produced, will be one of the keynote speakers, delivering an inspiring talk about his Olympic experience and how it has shaped the way he approaches and overcomes challenges.
Delegates will also gain an insight into how the Big Bash League has emerged as Australia’s fastest growing sporting phenomenon this summer. Join Adelaide Strikers general manager Bronwyn Klei as she discusses creating and building the Adelaide Strikers brand, generating and retaining membership through effective engagement strategies and securing the significant sponsorships deals which support the team.
Dr Emma Sherry, Senior Lecturer at the LaTrobe University Centre for Sport and Social Impact, will discuss ‘Social Inclusion as a Strategic Imperative'. Dr Sherry will discuss diversity and inclusion from a whole-of-organisation approach, highlighting the economic and commercial benefits of inclusion which will lead to long term sustainability.
Newly-retired Crows star Brent Reilly will be special guest at the Recreation SA Awards breakfast, held as part of the Conference. Reilly played 203 games for the Adelaide Crows before his career was cut short by a serious head injury received during a training accident in February 2015, leaving him with multiple fractures on the left side of his skull. He will discuss his football career, his road to recovery, the influence of his different AFL coaches on his playing career and life after football.
The engaging program will allow delegates to be informed about the latest industry trends and news, including an overview of the National Active Recreation Working Group. Be updated on important national and local initiatives which impact the recreation sector.
The conference will be held at Next Generation, Memorial Drive, North Adelaide on Monday, April 11.
