Each year at the Recreation Parks and Leisure conference we celebrate member organisations and individuals that make an outstanding contribution to the recreation sector in South Australia.
These awards celebrate the achievements of committed professionals and forward-thinking organisations who dedicate considerable time and effort to improving the recreation sector in South Australia. The 3 winners this year demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation and a strong commitment to increasing the profile and participation of active recreation in SA.
2018 Recreation SA Award – Winner: YMCA South Australia, Active Adults
This award encourages organisations or individuals to demonstrate increased participation in recreation activities in South Australia. This year the winner was the YMCA South Australia for their program Active Adults. The program provided structured, engaging and accessible recreation programs for older South Australians to improve their wellbeing, fitness, self-esteem, confidence and reduce reliance on medication and medical intervention.
2018 Recreation SA Person of the year Award – Winner: Rurik Symon
This award is for an individual who has made a significant contribution to recreation in South Australia. This year the winner was Rurik Symon from Baptist Care, Adventure Camp. Rurik demonstrated inspirational work in the recreation industry as an Outdoor Recreation instructor. He inspired people to love life and has a passion for helping young people achieve their goals particularly with youths at risk.
2018 Watch Around Water Community Innovative Award
This award encourages registered centres to promote the Watch Around Water key principles and allows centres to demonstrate their commitment to water safety. This year the winner was the Barossa Aquatic and Fitness Centre who showed their commitment to water safety by developing lifeguard safety training videos, engaging with schools, kindergartens and child care centres by conducting talks on water safety and by introducing multi-language materials to promote awareness and cultural inclusion and diversity.
